Rokolectiv 2008, 11-13April (Bucharest)
The 3rd edition of Rokolectiv, festival for electronic music and related visual arts, takes place on the 11th and 12th of April at Club Session, and on the 13th at the National Museum of Contemporary Arts. This year’s theme: Playground.
Encouraging the creation of a playground, Rokolectiv will “force” artists to push the limits of their creativity and engage their playful energies. Surprise, Improvisation, Speculation, Mutation and Interaction will all have a role to play – or, on the contrary, the artists may choose to play within their own self-imposed rules and limitations. The 2008 edition continues to call over the mixing of genres and media and hails the return of Live in electronic music.
This year, Rokolectiv is proud to present the legendary “label for movement” Underground Resistance, a collective of artists who’ve made a name for themselves in the history of music by using Techno as a force for positive awareness and social change. This will be the first time that the Detroit knights have performed their Interstellar Fugitives live show in Bucharest, a sonic revolution under the lead of “Mad” Mike Banks.
The 2008 edition will also host a special showcase dedicated to the Norwegian scene, featuring the space-disco veteran Bjorn Torske, future jazz mutants Mungolian Jet Set and Elektrofant, the live house act closest to the North Pole. These three hybrid performances have been organized in partnership with Numusic festival and the Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest.
Rokolectiv will close the gates with an extraordinary performance by Jean-Jacques Perrey, pioneer of electronic music and one of most sampled artists to date. Aged 79, Mr. Perrey will send us back to childhood, together with his life companion David Chazam and his favorite toy, the ondioline.
